The vertical cliff beckons..
My long awaited segment of the climb.
Majestic and towering, it peaks above me..
I set my goal to scale it.
With skill I move forward..
With confidence I surged..
But this apparently is not enough..
As into the quagmire, I took the plunge.
The pit seemed endless..
The edges of the chasm jutting at various angles..
Wide & sheer would best fit its description.
The heat from the sun I had felt so good and warm..
Became nothing but a piercing wind.
One that cuts into the bone and soul..
Reminding me of my impending doom.
The fall was long..
Taking the breath out of me.
I never got to know my worth..
And see what life doseth' yields..
Don't think I can..
And don't think I ever will..
